The most frequented and award-winning of all the Amstel watering holes, Montmartre takes its inspiration from the fabulousness and naughtiness of 1920s Paris (but with a local Dutch feel). A massive mural evokes the era, with references to the city's landmarks, Josephine Baker and the jazz scene. At ceiling height disco balls and big and puffy pink and white flowers push the camp thing to its welcomed limits. Gets busy and buzzy, with absolutely no room in which to swing a cat, though there's a tiny dance floor.

Music = Eurovision, 70s, 80s, and 90s chart hits and Dutsch pop. Attracts a slightly older crowd (forties, fifties) in the early evening, supplanted by the younger set as the night progresses. Monthly bingo nights. Opened in 1964 (as Chez Tonie), with a new owner and new French bar name from 1982. Current (and third) owner Demian Cortie has overseen Montmartre since December 2007. Located just opposite Entre Nous, seconds from the northeast corner of Rembrandtplein.
