Smart and modern hotel with olde-world flourishes
An impressive 230-room hotel overlooking two of the city's more beautiful canals, the Pulitzer has provided an afterlife for 25 17th- and 18th-century townhouses. Original features such as wooden ceiling beams add to the hotel's already homey and luxuriant feel ("quintessential Dutch elegance"), and the "tranquil garden oasis" is a big thing here. It was Peter Pultizer who conceived of the original conversion. He sold the hotel in the early 1990s, but the facades of the individul houses and various interior aspects such as corridors, a staircase and the Saxenburgzaal (now a meeting rooms) are listed monuments. A new owner took over in 2015, with a new concept introduced in January 2016. In short, "upscale service with a dressed down Dutch attitude". The only possible snag, aside from the prices, is that the hotel is located a bit west/northwest of most things gay.
